I was curious as to anyone within the S&H community, rides, or owns a motorcycle? Or has ever ridden a motorcycle?
I was browsing sport bikes this week, thinking about getting one a bit down the road maybe this year or next, and I'm looking for possibly a 599cc bike.
As far as my qualifications, I rode a dirt bike as a younger teen, and we hit the swap lands roughly one weekend per year. The bike was a 125cc and it was a friend of mines.
So, is there anyone with tips, or ideas or any suggestiong on what I should get?
I was interested in Honda's CBR600RR series.

thats the same bike my brother had a few years ago. Rides great as long as you arent 5'5" and weight 120... Tried to drive it by myself a few times. Once i got goin it was okay but tryin to hold it up til then was a pain. : ) think he managed 150 with it a couple of times, but he never wrecked it...

'82 Yamaha Virago 920, fast enough for our roads, rides like a cloud on the winds. Had it out in sub freezing temps, snow, rain, T-storms. Get a good suit and lid.

I agree with Diesel Doctor, although the maintenance can be a little more pricey.
I rode a Harley for years. The one thing Harley has over all the rest is resale value. It's a classic when you buy it, and remains a classic as long as you take good care of it. Avoid the 883cc and 1000cc. Go big, or stay home! If you can find an old panhead or knucklehead, you've struck gold.

I really wouldnt recommend the CBR or any Harley for that matter if you have only ridden a 125 a few times a year. I've been a tech at a local dealership down here in Florida for the past 10 years and I'd say buy a 250. Ninja or CBR it doesnt matter, though I'd recommend the Kawi over the Honda just becuase its a twin and not a single. Do yourself a favor and buy a REAL helmet.
Fiberglass or better with a removable liner. HJC has some nice ones without too much money being spent. If you can afford it buy a Shoei or an Arai. ALWAYS wear gloves. If you tripped and fell right now the first thing to hit the ground would be your hands.
Bikes are expensive to maintain and even more expensive to repair crash damage. The Harley would break you on the first tipover and it WILL happen. The CBR would break you in a different way. Stay safe, Take an MSF course and dont get cocky on something with the power to weight ratio of a trident missile.
Most liter bikes do over a 100 in first gear these days and that 600 will do over 70. Not to be taken lightly

is this the same slammy that is on the BF servers often in afternoon? Nice to see you in here. Your name came up a couple of times in the TS server yesterday. Be careful the code of conduct here is less forgiving than the servers.
where in Florida are you located ?
here is the BESt advice on this forum.
Doesnt matter your level of expierience
you really should take the safety rider course AND the advance rider course.
both could save your life.
I had 88' Honda hurricane (AKA cbr f1) 92' ZX9r
I saw this at outside a pawn shop friday and cannot get it out of my mind.
One more thing wear a helmet ALWAYS.... endofstory.com

I agree with nimmer about the rider course they do help if you are a new rider and if you guy's are into the croch rocket sence then yes nimmer that harley is for you, the v-rod was harley's response to the croch rocket.
PS- in response to the helmet thing, i agree but stay away from full face and go with just what they call the brain bucket trust me there is a VERY good reason for it.

In response to the rider's safety courses. it's Mandated in the state of Fl to take them before getting a motorcycle endorsement on your license. I'm not too worried about the classes as much as choosing a bike. I'm gonig to start hitting local shops, and see what I'm comfortable on.

OK Damien, Here are my top 3 recommendations for you as it appears you want a crotch rocket. These are the best of the best and also maintain a very high resale value...

Just a heads up. If you are tall like me-6'2" make sure you sit on all the bikes before buying one. For me the CBR's are more comfortable because they are more forgiving to taller people then say... the Suzuki GSX.
It may not seem like a big deal to some people. But when you decide to go on your first road trip and you get 100 miles down the road, being hunched over a bike, comfort is going to cross your mind.

Thanks for the tip Spoon. I'm 6'1 So I'm sure I'll wind up having the same issue.
As far as bikes go.. I'm going for individual look of the cycle, I'm not going for much on specs, and I just thought the CBR was damn sexy.

Subject: Buy something unique Thu Feb 03, 2011 8:03 pm
Im in Port St. Lucie now, I keep moving north every few years. I'm behaving fairly well I suppose.
Back to bikes.
Buy something unique that stirs the soul when you see it. I'm into twins but not cruisers How about an 848 or a used RC51. Neither will try and kill you on day one and guaranteed street cred from people who ride. The 600 is nice and i have ridden a bunch of them but, they dont have any torque. If you're 6" like me then you will be bored on the 600 in no time. You have to rev them to the moon to get moving but how often will you be at 15,000 rpm on the road?
Difference between a twin and a four is easy. 4cyl feels like you have been warped from one end of the road to the other. twin feels like you have been drop kicked and pulls like a tractor from idle. I'm putting out 90Ft. Lbs. and 130 rwhp. torque curve is almost flat. 3rd gear wheelies are a throttle up option where you'd be clutching the hell out of anything else.
97 TL1000S 99 TLR motor with high comp pistons and ferrea valves (little port work) 08 GSXR 1000 front end Ohlins shock Woodcraft controls All titanium hardware Braced frame and swingarm So much other stuff i cant type anymore
Just noticed L2 was from Illinois, i grew up in moline.

Looking for something to play around on and went back to pitster pro

We raced their standard pitbikes down here at moroso with slicks on the go kart track and I'm pretty sure this will do 50 out of the crate 100 mpg to boot
