| I'm building a new rig would really like some of your thoughts.
so the cpu's that im thinking about are........ Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601960
Series: Core i7 L2 Cache: 4 x 256KB L3 Cache: 8MB Manufacturing Tech: 45 nm
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K
Series: Core i7 L2 Cache: 4 x 256KB L3 Cache: 8MB Manufacturing Tech: 32 nm
here is a comparison of the two cpu's they didnt have the I7 960 so i used the 970 just to see the difference.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/157?vs=287 then there isthe I5 2500k that is almost $100 dollars cheaperbut compares really well with the I7 2600kthis is the I5 2500k and the I7 970
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/157?vs=288 then the I5 2500k and the I7 2600k
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=288
so i would like to here what you all think. Thank You!

| I would say go with the Sandy bridge K series. If you have a budget, I would also go with the 2500K to afford an aftermarket heat sink, a good P67 motherboard, & better GPU but, If you have the cash to spend & want the best, the 2600K is it. The 2600K has multi-threading, 2 more Mb L3 cache, & is better in benchmarking but, every forum Ive read says for gaming, the 2500K is the best bang for your buck. I did alot of comparing & decided on the 2500K for myself & have had no problems with it. I did have it overclocked to 4.5GHz (with some voltage increase) for a short time but, it had very little affect on gaming compared to 4.2GHz (stock voltage), which is where I have it now. I also have some 3DMark11, Vantage, & Heaven DX11 benchmarks of my own in these forums with my old Q9450 & my new 2500K, both with the GTX570 GPU.

| Nimmer turned me on to this website in which I recieved 5 pages of replies to a question I had about re-using my old motherboard. These guys are a wealth of information. But, I will warn you they are partial to ATI vid cards. http://www.semiaccurate.com/forums/ | |

| To be honest I love my i7 950, i'm not much into overclocking but i was able to get mine to 4 ghz stable and run prime 95 for 6 hrs and never got over 56.5 degrees cel. on a Asus Rampage 3 Fromula, of course i have an after market cpu cooler from Noctua, just my two cents. | |

| Wow, I read your post in that link & those guys can get confusing Ive always used NVidia with Intel but, If I were to ever build an AMD system, I would probably try out ATI. NOW LETS NOT TURN THIS THREAD INTO A GPU DISCUSSION LIKE THEY DID TO L2'S POST IN THAT LINK!! | |
