| Well everyone my desktop computer no longer works. My dad was on the phone with HP last night (brand of our computer) and they solved the problem I was having with the internet but they noticed there were a couple of other issues as well. Well after being on the phone until 3 in the morning, they successfully broke my computer... now nothing works, not even our antivirus :/ they are apparently going to phone us back later today because they're going to do some research on the problem but until they fix what they broke I've got nothing... which sucks. Yay me... So pretty much they owe us a new computer if they can't solve the problem. So i won't be able to enjoy a game of BF3 until everything is fixed or we get a new computer entirely. I'll be able to chat with you guys still via my macbok but no gaming for this little person over here. :'( I'm a sad and frustrated panda... :'(

| Have you reformatted and reinstalled windows yet? Try that 1st, there may be conflicting HPware killing your system! | |

| well it turns out now we have to RESTART the whole computer. as in: back up all the files and erase everything and start from scratch! that's how bad they messed up. My dad did "build" his own computer but it's still and HP i guess... not sure how it works exactly... Papa H is not happy... :/
And I agree steelhed, i thought tech support was supposed to fix problems... not make them worse OR break the system itself! :S
Diesel, the reason why we called HP was because in the bottom right hand corner there is an icon near the clock that looks like a monitor and if you click on it, it brings up your network sharing and internet access window. well there was a little triangle with exclamation point and when you hovered your mouse over it, it said that we were connected to the network but not the internet. It has done this before and i found that the only way to get rid of it/fix it was to do a system recovery BUT i shouldn't have to resort to that every single time that happens because i've done that about 5 times and my dad caught me doing one and he said to me next time it happens to talk to him so i did. he called our internet provider and they told us as far as they were concerned everything seemed to be working... but we could only access certain sites, well most anyway. I couldn't open origin, it was saying i was offline and it told me one time when i did a troubleshoot that i would only be able to access certain sites and apparently origin is one of the ones that is included in the non useable ones. :/ so my dad then called HP and that's when the path of destruction started. I tried everything. I honestly did.

| Yeah definitely reads like all software issues. Not sure about HP, don't deal with them very often. Dell is who we typically go through.
Would definitely recommend a complete system format with clean installation of windows as YOU want it with no bloat/crap ware installed.

| If I had to advise you before you called HP and they rampaged your system. I would of told you to remove your network drivers. Then reload drivers I bet this would of fix the problem. If not I would be looking @ possible hardware problem. Well good luck | |

| sooooo its not always your computer causing the network to JUST be connected and not the internet.... when it has that little exclamation point... right click it... click diagnose.... ALWAYS diagnose if you have vista/7 ... then after diagnosing and its still not connecting... restart modem/router/switch whatever you have.. after that make sure your IP config is set to auto by going to your network adapter itself

| "A few extra issues" In other words, Nothing wrong, but they wanted you to break your system so they could get money. I've had plenty of experiences with tech support from various companies. I don't trust them in anyway as they either A.) Are reading it from a manual, which doesn't cover every scenario B.) Actually know what their doing and decide to get you to break the system and have it sent in for a repair (which gets them more money) Meh... I digress... Anywayz, If you wish I can help you. What exactly is wrong? Error messages? Does it boot? Can it boot safe mode? This sounds like a virus (AV doesn't work). AVs work just fine in keeping things out, but once something is in, then the AV can't handle it and typically the virus will shut the AV down. To access Safe mode, spam the "F8" (standard boot options key) right after the POST screen. If it at least boots safe mode Then - Code:
-
try running the following ComboFix - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
ComboFix is a dedicated tool that searches the system for known viruses using a built in virus definition database updated nightly through nightly builds on server. ComboFix will attempt to remove all known instances of any malware and also revert any changes that the malware has made. Example of changes that could be made are HOST file redirects, Wallpapers, Home pages, DNS' server IPs, Proxy settings, Group policy edits to disable task manager and Ctrl - Alt - Del, and hiding default administrator account.
HijackThis - http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
Hijack This is a tool developed by TrendMicro that will gather info on running processes, current settings from registry, and services to give a technician helpful info on the background processes and general system stability.
ComboFix will output a log to your C:\ HijackThis will output a savable log.
PM me both. Else - Code:
-
WinXP and previous
You need the appropriate OS installation disc. Put the disc in the CD drive Boot the disc Continue to "RECOVERY CONSOLE" found below
Win Vista/7 Hit F8 right after post screen. (Same as if trying to get into safe mode) Hit the "Recovery Mode" Continue to "RECOVERY CONSOLE" found below
RECOVERY CONSOLE: Open recovery console (RC) via on screen instructions follow instructions for logging into RC -The RC will prompt you for Installation Drive and Admin Password Once that information is inputted, it will just display a blinking cursor.
Type "FIXBOOT" Let it finish Type "FIXMBR" Let it finish Type "EXIT" Exit the RC
You should now be able to boot at least into safe mode.
