24/7 Rush Server Empty
PostSubject: 24/7 Rush Server   24/7 Rush Server Icon_minitimeMon Feb 25, 2013 10:28 am

Hi SH!
I have been playing on your server for a long while. The settings are probably the best of any hardcore Rush server in BF3, and I enjoy the games there.

Recently, you have implemented a swear filter, and I wanted to share my observations based on that implementation.

1. I was attempting to reach and revive a squadmate but was killed just feet from him. I typed "crap" into squad chat and was kicked from the server. (Chronic later told me this was fixed.)

2. I have seen multiple people get kicked or banned from the server for swearing, including guys in KOA platoon.

3. I have seen admin "yell" on the server about language.

4. I have seen the in-game flow change because people are getting kicked. A winning team suddenly turns into a losing team when half the players are suddenly gone after taking the bait from the opposing team in chat.

As a result of the constant kicks and bans, I have noticed that the popularity of this server has fallen off dramatically in just the past two weeks. Most days, the server is empty until our platoon tries to populate it. When we do populate it, we don't see many regular players joining any more. The people we're used to seeing are playing on a different server with 10 or more people in queue! That's correct - they would rather wait 20 minutes in a queue than play on SH! This is very sad.

I realize that you have a code of conduct and expect people to abide by it. However, it is not in the interest of the server's population for you to maintain this policy. In fact, the damage may already be done, and beyond repair. Ultimately, you will end up with a mostly empty server with only members from SH playing (like yesterday) because many others have been kicked or banned and they don't want to play there any more. I would much prefer a server where not playing the objective is considered offensive, and swearing is simply ignored. When I get kicked from a server, I have to really convince myself that it's worth returning. I suspect others feel similarly.

If you look at your history of players on this server and their recent battle reports, you will absolutely find that a lot of them have migrated to other servers. Lots of people in my friends list were met on your server, but lately they are playing elsewhere, and it's not a coincidence. If I want to game with them, it means I'll be playing elsewhere too. This is a shame, because this was one of my favorite servers. Now, I regretfully find myself hovering the mouse over the "remove from favorites" button in Battlelog.

Obviously it's your server and you can run it how you want. As almost every admin says, "If you don't like it, play somewhere else." Unfortunately for the server, that's exactly what people are doing. Crying or Very sad

24/7 Rush Server Empty
PostSubject: Re: 24/7 Rush Server   24/7 Rush Server Icon_minitimeMon Feb 25, 2013 3:52 pm

Thanks for the Submission of this post... Sorry for that , the word crap should not have done that so, we did put a downloaded 700 word list of bad words that needs to be reviewed and edited.

We have always been a language filtered server. Before Armored kill came out, we where in the top 300 servers in gametracker. We started getting lax on the language used in the game chat and had lost players due to the language and disrespect that was occurring. As you know over the last couple months we have progressively been getting back to our core values in our Code of Conduct.. Language is just one of those cores that our membership agreed to uphold. There is a reason for the name Strength and Honor..

Honor- We try each day to do the right thing whether that is helping each other reach a higher moral ground by watching our language, being truthful, responsibility for our actions ie (following other's server rules when we play there), or helping out another when their in need. There are so many other things that happen in our community each day that set us apart from many gaming communities. Many clans have played here and will tell you that we are highly respected for our consistent implementations of our values. It draws others with the same values to our servers and our community.

There are many clans/communities that play here who in their TS or Game Server curse. But they respect us and do not do it here... Many are good friends who we scrim with. I view this as just another Honorable gesture from others who play here. We thank them!

Strength - We are a community some say a family. We have no 1 person in charge, we all have a say and most of the time we are in agreement on where we are headed. We confront each other if needed and pull together when things get tough. Strength is not letting our values be viewed as just an idea or our Code of Conduct as being a guide that we only follow on occasion. Strength is not worrying if server numbers are dropping because people are being kicked for language. Strength is telling others that if you cant play the game without using bad language there are many others servers who will welcome you.

We will do some editing with the words.. Crap is not viewed as a vulgar word here.. But we wont edit our Code nor our daily values which make us honorable just so we will have a full server 24/7..

Thank You very much for posting I am appreciative that you took the time to give advice.. hope to see you in game!

Chat filter has been edited.. Not as strict but expect people to be respectful to others and watch your mouth.

Hi SgtScott,
Thank you for your reply. I understand where you are coming from. You've got standards, and you're not going to deviate from them. In a way, that's very admirable.

The challenge is that culturally, there is variation in what's considered conversational, and what's considered offensive. My in-laws are from Oklahoma. I'm from just outside of New York City. We have very different opinions about what's offensive. Ireland and Australia, for example, use offensive words when they are meant as a compliment, or a jest, and don't mean any offense by it.

The reason I point this out is because I feel that the plugin developers have done a great injustice to server admins and the player community at large, when it comes to this sort of system.

I'm not sure if you've seen the votemap system that's available on some servers. It allows you to type, in squad chat, a sequence of keystrokes that are registered as a "vote", but which are not displayed to your squad.

I think it would be far superior to have a similar system in place for "offensive" language. Rather than punishing, kicking, banning, and making life generally unpleasant for the admins, simply use the same mechanism of the "votemap" system to TRAP the offensive word or phrase, and then throw it out before it's displayed on the screen to anyone. Or, inject 5 empty lines immediately after the offensive word or phrase so that it scrolls right out of existence. That way, you're not acknowledging the language at all, not drawing attention to it. The best way to alleviate a problem is not to punish, but to nullify it. It's only a problem when it's MADE a problem. That's just how I live my life, and it has worked for me. Smile

This opens an interesting dialogue. If the intent is that you don't want "that kind" of player on your server, then of course you're making a judgement about them and that's your call. I can also understand that point of view because you may only want a certain "type" of person logging into your servers.

To me, I am much more interested in the 3D animated player in-game, and what they are doing to help the team, and much less interested in the nut behind the keyboard. The more I can do to isolate the two, the better!

Thanks again for your response.

I so agree with you here!

I also agree if the concept is about the gameplay... But here at Strength and Honor, we care less about gameplay and more about being a community of friends even though we are a competitive bunch. Again Thank You for posting and replying. I along with the other members really appreciate it when someone outside the community takes time out to give some advice..

See you in game!! Smile
