| The area I live was a DOE site producing Plutonium; a job I once held (Cert. Nuclear Reactor Operator). Meaning a lot of high tech stuff was sold at local government auctions or just showed up.
One Item a friend gave me was the working end of a very powerful magnet. It was inert when I got it. Weighing in at a few hundred pounds, a 'C shaped' hunk of metal with large copper coils at the bottom and a small polished gap of about an inch at the top.
I had the electronics just never did get the cables for it's operation, it worked (as I understood) by generating and collapsing a magnetic field many times a second producing a very powerful magnet field.
While I don't know what the pull force was, when it was in operation you didn't get close to it for long, as it pulled at the iron in your blood. It's wow factor was a copper penny dropped through the gap would stop briefly then continue on.
When I moved I left it behind, it was just too heavy. Scrap value would be big bucks right now. | |

| Are you kidding? By the time you got 5 feet near a car to fix the dent, that magnet would be flying out of your hand at mach speed only to put a hole in the body....LoL | |
